An interesting item of note to social anthropologists is that nearly every culture in recorded history has some sort of a great flood myth, even those in landlocked areas.
Similarly, every mythology contains reference to some dragon-like creature, even those in parts of the world to which dragons are not indiginous.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, has a better PR machine than dragons. They have themselves retroactively inserted into all mythologies as soon as a culture is contacted.
